The edge of the Scissors King is out of shape. This was the worst thing that could happen in the Universe of Scissors. It had been trumpeted for days on the radio by the scissor opposition. For all the scissors had feared only the sharpest king. For years, the Scissor Prince had been sharpening his edges so that he could be the sharpest and cut through the thickest cardboard. But now that the time had come, he was not the sharpest. Peter, the seemingly insignificant tailor's scissors, was to come when his wife, Judith the embroidery scissors, was appointed by the King to head the Scissors Inspectorate. Judith's job was to declare the sharpness of all scissors. Whenever a pair of scissors became too sharp, posing a threat to the monarch, she would, for some fictitious reason, issue a decree for compulsory dulling. The sharper scissors were after a while locked up in dulling camps. The Scissors King trusted Judith so much that no one at court doubted her; they could not imagine Judith, the little pointy-nosed woman, not checking someone over thoroughly. It is not known, of course, whether by forgetfulness or by choice, but Judith never checked Peter. Although they slept together every night, they hadn't actually been married for a year, which they kept secret from everyone. So it was that Judith only felt other edges during the day, her husband's liveliness was of no interest to her. Peter cut through the cardboard at the royal assembly in almost half the time of the Scissor Prince. The Scissor Prince was imprisoned with the tyrant king. Peter, the new king of the scissors, abolished the Scissors Inspectorate and exiled Judith.
